Extremely rare German WW2 U-boat Submarine Kill Flag U-57, 5000 tons + owner’s ID
German WWII U-boat U-57 Kill Flag, 5000 tons. The commander of u-boat in 1940 was Erich Topp – look at the last image. The flag is measures 9” tall (plus the ties) by 12” wide.
When the U-Boats returned to port, they’d fly their kill flag to show their successful mission and the top/bottom ends of the flag have roped eyelets (lanyards) so they could do just that, proudly fly it from the mast. Hand painted on black cotton. Machine sewn. Single sided. This is a fantastic piece of naval history. Low excellent condition.
For sell on this auction also one document belonged to the sailor – owner of this pennant. Sailors ID, few other documents and pennant were bought from the same family estate sale 20+ years ago. Please note: for sell are kill flag and one (not all three) document. The price is different – please ask about it.
The flag passed very important test – it does not glow under the black lamp (all fabrics after 1945 glow under the black light).
U-BOAT: U-57 -. Commissioned: December 29, 1938.
Successes: 13 ships sunk, total tonnage 76.887 GRT.
